Why buy Contemporary Indian Art ?

Now is probably a better time than ever to buy Contemporary Indian Art. The Indian Art movement is just beginning to knock on the doors of the International Art Market and yet it remains relatively undiscovered, allowing for great values.

Increasing International Profile for Indian Art – Indian artists and contemporary Indian art is emerging as a force in the International art world. The Sotheby New York auctions in 1995 and 1996, of paintings from the Chester Herwitz collection, was the impressive first announcement. Each auction netted over a million dollar in sales - and this, despite the impression that the best pieces from the collection were not auctioned.

Art as an Investment Opportunity - Contemporary Indian art is a price escalation waiting to happen. A very instructive parallel is art from Latin America. As late as 1979 there was no market to speak of for art by Latin American artists such as Frida Kahlo, Wilfredo Lam and Ruffino Tamayo. At the first Sotheby's auction of Latin American art in 1977 the Frida Kahlo painting "The Tree of Hope Stands Firm" sold for $19,000 (below the low pre-auction estimate of $20,000). Exhibitions and auction sales followed – including an important show at the Grey Art Gallery in New York - building up interest among buyers over a period of eight to ten years with gradually escalating prices. By the end of the 1980s the market exploded. Madonna bought the very same painting "The Tree of Hope Stands Firm" for an undisclosed sum widely thought to be in excess of a million dollars about the same time.

Why should I buy the work of any of your featured artists and not some other source?

Being first movers in the field, we have been able to negotiate, even with the most established artists in our galleries, Special Agreements that allow us to offer to our customers the most competitive prices.

Can I see a larger image of the artwork before I decide to buy it?

Due to bandwidth issues, we are not able to put very large images on the site. However, for every image on the site, we have in our files, very large image files that we would be happy to email to you. If you have a fast connection, you could receive these images and view them on screen or print them on a color printer to get an approximation of the original piece.

Is there somewhere I could come and see the art for myself?

Yes. While we do not have the entire body of work that you can see on the website, we usually have a very representative selection of most of the works. You are welcome to visit our gallery at our office. Office Address: F-1, Whispering Height, , # 132, St. Marrys Road, Chennai - 600 018, Tamilnadu, India
